Relocating to Athens, OH -pros and cons?

Random thought, Poverty rate is 10.8%, which is around average. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Has anyone dealt with this? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in engineering. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The safety is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
