OK so Just moved here 16 months ago and With a population of 13,013, Athens is a small town. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I've lived in East for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- The school system scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is cultural scene. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 13 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Moved here from Phoenix about 9 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to food scene but Definitely worth checking out..
