Hello, I've been here for 18 years and Median household income is $46,432, which feels on the lower side for the area. Homes are going for about $77,700 on average. The unemployment rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Is this normal for Atkins? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 4 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into running, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been here 9 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
