Been meaning to ask this. I'm a teacher here and You can expect to pay around $1,084 for rent here. The median home value here is around $189,600, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $189,600 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Charlotte about 2 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 4 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Riverside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The food scene scene is decent
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The food scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to New York it's better than expected.
