I'm retired and The unemployment rate is 6.7%, which is concerning. Median household income is $63,945, which feels about average for the area. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What are your go-to spots? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Houston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
