My family moved here when I was a kid. The unemployment rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,034 for rent here. Household incomes average around $56,123 in Auburn. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Is this normal for Auburn? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Seattle about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.
