Been meaning to ask this. We're a young couple and Median household income is $66,552, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $254,600 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Let me know your thoughts. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Dallas it's pretty good.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Pine Hills. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 15 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely underrated and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Eastside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The school system is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
