How is Auburn for outdoor activities?

Longtime lurker here, Been living here since 2008. Crime rate is something to consider -Auburn sits at 128.1 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Any advice would be great.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Indian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Boston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Happy to answer more specific questions..
