Random thought, Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Baltimore about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is improving.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely solid and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Springfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
