Top 5 things I love about Auburn

Anyone else feel this way? My partner and I are Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $510,400 on average. Poverty rate is 5.7%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Am I overthinking this? The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 53, moved here 3 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in South and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Limited shopping options
3. The job market situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for family and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The pet-friendliness is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
