Hey folks, Been living here since 2020. It's a a mid-size city city with about 202K people. Rent is about $1,087/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $162,900 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,087 for rent here. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Appreciate any input. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. If you value housing market, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Downtown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

I've been here 12 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Background: I'm a chef, 33, moved here 8 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Riverside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people

3. Good airport with direct flights

1. Winters are long and cold

I've lived in East for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:

- Active local events and festivals

The downsides:
