Average temperature is around 66°F, so the weather is moderate. With a population of 202K, Augusta-Richmond County is a mid-size city. Household incomes average around $53,134 in Augusta-Richmond County. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Am I wrong here? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Seattle about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much wild but now it's average.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Sunset) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in construction. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Indian.
No regrets on my end..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2020 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
