What Augusta-Richmond County does better than anywhere else
The unemployment rate is 4.5%, which is about average. Median household income is $53,134, which feels on the lower side for the area. Homes are going for about $162,900 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely solid and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for family and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The food scene is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
