Hey everyone, We have two kids and Homes are going for about $260,400 on average. The suburbs are where most families end up. Would love some local perspective. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Houston about 7 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great sushi places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 14 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..
