Biggest downsides of living in Austin?

I'm a teacher here and Homes are going for about $512,700 on average. Average temperature is around 71°F, so it's warm year-round. Rent is about $1,655/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $512,700, which is pretty steep. Median household income is $91,461, which feels pretty solid for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Good schools
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Limited cultural events
Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Minneapolis about 10 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
