Is Austin a good place to live?

I'm a college student here and Crime rate is something to consider — Austin sits at 400.9 per 100K. The median home value here is around $512,700, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 71°F, so it's warm year-round. Household incomes average around $91,461 in Austin. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Low taxes
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- Poor road conditions
- Not enough green space
Let me know your thoughts. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Sunset) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much wild but now it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Minneapolis about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Definitely worth checking out..

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (West) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
