Moving from Atlanta to Austin next month

Hey, The median home value here is around $512,700, which is pretty steep. Household incomes average around $91,461 in Austin. Rent is about $1,655/month for a decent place. With a population of 968K, Austin is a major city. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Would love some local perspective. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in construction. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.
