Why I chose Austin over bigger cities

Been living here since 2007. The median home value here is around $512,700, which is pretty steep. Household incomes average around $91,461 in Austin. Rent is about $1,655/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Definitely worth checking out..
