Is Avenel a good place to live?

Hey everyone, I relocated for work and You can expect to pay around $1,839 for rent here. Homes are going for about $351,200 on average. Poverty rate is 7.6%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What do you all think? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Midtown area are excellent. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 3 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
