Hey, Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. The suburbs are where most families end up.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much growing but now it's better than expected.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to LA it's average.

I've lived in Sunset for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
- The community vibe scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 39, moved here 14 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The job market situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 5 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
