How is Avery Creek for outdoor activities?

Alright, Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 47, moved here 10 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Old Town and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The safety situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 14 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Nashville about 9 years ago. The main reasons were school and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Maple Ridge area are tough. Kids love it here.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
