Anyone else feel this way? I'm single, late 50s, and The unemployment rate is 1.0%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $337,200 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Thanks! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Seattle about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely improving and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Downtown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
