Cost of living reality check -Avon Lake

So, It's a a smaller city city with about 25,456 people. The unemployment rate is 1.0%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,500/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. 

Pros:

- Close to nature

- Good airport connections

Cons:

- Traffic can be terrible

- Few job opportunities in some fields

- Boring for young people

- Chain restaurants dominate

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 30, moved here 9 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Eastside and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**

1. Cost of living is very reasonable

2. Good airport with direct flights

3. Diverse dining options

4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**

1. Chain restaurants dominate

2. Limited shopping options

3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**

- Eastside: Great for young professionals. better than expected vibes, walkable.

- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**

- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**

Coming from Miami, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.
