Cost of living reality check -Avon Lake

So, It's a a smaller city city with about 25,456 people. The unemployment rate is 1.0%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,500/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good job market
- Close to nature
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Boring for young people
- Chain restaurants dominate
Any advice would be great. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 30, moved here 9 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Eastside and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited shopping options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for young professionals. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
