Hello, Born and raised here. With a population of 1,493, Avon is a small town. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Is this normal for Avon? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

I've lived in Highland for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The cultural scene scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in tech. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Definitely worth checking out..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is improving in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 51, moved here 6 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in The Heights and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Close to major attractions
2. Diverse dining options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The weather situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2017 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Came here for retirement and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The school system is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
