Biggest downsides of living in Avon Park?

Been meaning to ask this. I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 22.6%, which is higher than I expected. It's a a small town city with about 9,879 people. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Would love some local perspective. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 11 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
