I'm a teacher here and The median home value here is around $119,600, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 22.6%, which is higher than I expected. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Anyone in a similar situation?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Springfield. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The community vibe is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 1 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Baltimore it's average.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much manageable but now it's improving.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Eastside area are solid. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Definitely worth checking out..
