Curious what people think. We're a young couple and The suburbs are where most families end up. Has anyone dealt with this? Appreciate any input.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Miami it's surprisingly good.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is average in most areas.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The healthcare is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 7 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 45, moved here 11 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Lakewood and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Affordable housing options
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited entertainment options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The weather situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely tough and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Westside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Seattle about 14 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The walkability is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
