Been meaning to ask this. Poverty rate is 22.4%, which is higher than I expected. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Would love some local perspective. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I've lived in Downtown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- The job market scene is tough
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
