Couple moving to Avondale from out of state

Longtime lurker here, My family moved here when I was a kid. Rent is about $1,411/month for a decent place. With a population of 5,200, Avondale is a small town. Poverty rate is 22.4%, which is higher than I expected. Crime rate is something to consider -Avondale sits at 161.0 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What are your go-to spots? The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Houston about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is average in most areas.
