Hey folks, My family moved here when I was a kid. The median home value here is around $263,800, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 64--F, so the weather is moderate. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The healthcare is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 26, moved here 13 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Highland and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Can feel isolated
3. The pet-friendliness situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in retail. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Indian.
