Bakersfield is underrated, change my mind

OK so Just moved here 5 months ago and With a population of 408K, Bakersfield is a mid-size city. Crime rate is something to consider — Bakersfield sits at 455.1 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Is this normal for Bakersfield?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Raleigh about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..
