Bakersfield vs Fayetteville — which is better to move to?
My partner and I are deciding between Bakersfield and Provo for our next move. We care most about:
- Cost of living
- Safety
- Job market (tech)
- Outdoor activities
Anyone who's lived in either or both — which would you choose and why?

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 9/10.

Been here 20 years. The city has changed a lot but overall for the better.

Coming from Houston, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are cheaper.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

Great post! One thing I'd mention is drive around neighborhoods at different times before committing. Makes a big difference.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Highland Park and Midtown are perfectly safe.

I'd add that the parks here are amazing for families. Otherwise spot on!

I've lived in Riverside for 12 years and it's a hidden gem honestly.

The job market has been improving lately. Several government companies moved in recently.

Rent tip: look for places in January-February. Prices drop and there's more availability.

I've lived in Southside for 7 years and it's still one of the best decisions I made.
