Is it worth buying in Bakersfield?

Born and raised here. Household incomes average around $77,397 in Bakersfield. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I wrong here? It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I've lived in East for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The safety scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is average in most areas.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 38, moved here 2 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Highland and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The school system situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for young professionals. decent vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
