I've been here for 4 years and With a population of 25,866, Ballenger Creek is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $1,913 for rent here. Average temperature is around 57--F, so the weather is moderate. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I wrong here? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Bought a house here in 2020 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Downtown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 2 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.
