Quick question about Ballwin

Hi all, I'm a remote worker and Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Does this match your experience? Thanks! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely improving and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (South) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The food scene is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 52, moved here 7 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Fairview and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Good healthcare facilities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The public transit situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Korean.

No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 3 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The job market is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
