What to expect moving to Bangor?

OK so I've been here for 7 years and Average temperature is around 45--F, so bundle up in winter. Rent is about $1,019/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Appreciate any input.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Highland area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much manageable but now it's pretty good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 4 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 3 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is hit or miss.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 38, moved here 4 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Greenfield and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The pet-friendliness situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for singles. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in The Heights for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Close to major attractions
- The cultural scene scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is solid.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
