Hey folks, Military spouse here. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $167,100 on average. Poverty rate is 7.5%, which is pretty low. With a population of 5,158, Bangor is a small town. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I overthinking this? TIA! It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Houston about 6 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..
