First post here. I've been here for 14 years and Crime rate is something to consider -Baraboo sits at 230.4 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Has anyone dealt with this? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Tampa about 4 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in South for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- The community vibe scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Urban sprawl is real
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..
