Moving from Austin to Baraboo next month

Random thought, I'm a college student here and Household incomes average around $73,515 in Baraboo. Poverty rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $201,800 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Baraboo sits at 230.4 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- The food scene scene is average

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely improving and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Highland) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
