Rent in Bard College getting crazy

First post here. I've been here for 5 years and It's a a small town city with about 1,237 people. The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Springfield. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The nightlife is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 7 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
