Longtime lurker here, Homes are going for about $277,100 on average. Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. The median home value here is around $277,100, which seems about average. Median household income is $91,006, which feels pretty solid for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I overthinking this? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Westside area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Sunset for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- The pet-friendliness scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

I work in consulting here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is improving. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

it depends on the neighborhood

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely improving and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Cedar Grove for 8 years. Moved from San Francisco for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is tough - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Road conditions need improvement. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in tech. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
