Longtime lurker here, I'm a college student here and Crime rate is something to consider -Barrington sits at 19.5 per 100K. Household incomes average around $150,714 in Barrington. Homes are going for about $580,900 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Worth the trade-offs? Appreciate any input. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely challenging and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Old Town) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Bugs and humidity in summer.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in South area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

I'm a electrician and I've found the quality of life is solid. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
