Is Bastrop walkable?

So, I work in finance and Household incomes average around $70,625 in Bastrop. Median household income is $70,625, which feels about average for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Thoughts? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in North for 13 years. Moved from Seattle for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Homeless population growing downtown. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely pretty good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Midtown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in education. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

I work in real estate here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is challenging. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
