Is Bastrop walkable?

So, Just moved here 15 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Bastrop sits at 484.6 per 100K. Poverty rate is 8.9%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Any advice would be great. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I work in hospitality here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is excellent. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Old Town) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 44, moved here 7 years ago from Houston. I've lived in South and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The school system situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely improving and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (South) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
