What surprised you most about Bastrop?

I'm single, late 50s, and Median household income is $70,625, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,387 for rent here. Poverty rate is 8.9%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Bastrop sits at 484.6 per 100K. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Pros:
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.
