Anyone else feel this way? Crime rate is something to consider -Batesville sits at 262.7 per 100K. Median household income is $66,806, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $215,900 on average. Rent is about $761/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Worth the trade-offs? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
