Moving to Batesville with kids -good idea?

Alright, The median home value here is around $215,900, which is actually reasonable. It's a a small town city with about 6,842 people. Poverty rate is 17.3%, which is higher than I expected. Crime rate is something to consider -Batesville sits at 262.7 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Any help is appreciated. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 32, moved here 10 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The outdoor recreation situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is underrated in most areas.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great seafood places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The food scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
