Rent vs buy in Battle Creek -what makes sense?

Longtime lurker here, I'm a teacher here and Household incomes average around $51,699 in Battle Creek. Crime rate is something to consider -Battle Creek sits at 937.2 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Would love some local perspective. Thanks!

Bought a house here in 2021 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone about the same since then.
