Hey, Average temperature is around 61--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Baxter Village sits at 46.4 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 47, moved here 9 years ago from LA. I've lived in Sunset and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited public transit options
3. The healthcare situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $50K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Dallas about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in North for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- The walkability scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a HR manager and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from LA about 8 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..
