Rent in Bay City getting crazy

Anyone else feel this way? Been living here since 2022. Household incomes average around $47,904 in Bay City. You can expect to pay around $739 for rent here. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Has anyone dealt with this? Cheers. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 40, moved here 5 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Westside and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The outdoor recreation situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Fairview) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Denver it's improving.
